1. Cytomegalovirus (CMV) Retinitis:
This is one of the most serious eye infections seen in people with advanced HIV. CMV retinitis causes inflammation in the retina, which can lead to blurred vision, dark spots, and even permanent blindness if untreated. It typically occurs when the immune system is severely weakened, especially if the CD4 count drops below 50.
2. Kaposi’s Sarcoma of the Eye:
This is a type of cancer linked to HIV/AIDS. While it often appears on the skin, it can also develop on the eyelids or inside the eye. It shows up as purplish lesions and can interfere with vision or eye movement if it grows large enough.
3. HIV-Related Retinopathy:
This is one of the most common eye problems in HIV-positive individuals. It involves changes in the blood vessels of the retina, which can cause cotton-wool spots (small white patches), retinal bleeding, and eventually vision problems if not monitored closely.
