Many people believe that the Old Testament laws no longer apply after Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection, while others insist that the entire Bible remains relevant and should be respected and followed in full.
At first glance, it seems that some daily behaviors directly contradict biblical teachings from both the Old and New Testaments. We invite knowledgeable Bible scholars to help clarify and interpret these scriptures.
Below are some examples of such behaviors, along with biblical references supporting the argument:
1. Women Braiding Hair and Wearing Expensive Clothes
1 Timothy 2:9 advises women not to adorn themselves with costly clothing or elaborate hairstyles such as braids. Women should present themselves modestly and avoid drawing undue attention through their appearance.
2. Men Lustfully Looking at Women
Matthew 5:28 warns that a man who looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery in his heart, making such behavior sinful.
3. Female Pastors
While many churches today have women pastors, 1 Corinthians 14:34 instructs that women should remain silent in church and not speak, implying that pastoral leadership roles should not be held by women.
4. Shaving or Trimming Beards and Sideburns
Leviticus 19:27 commands not to cut the hair at the sides of the head or trim the edges of the beard, prohibiting certain grooming practices.
5. Overeating
Proverbs 23:2 cautions against excessive eating, urging self-control and warning that gluttony is sinful.
6. Spreading Gossip or Slander
Leviticus 19:16 forbids harming a neighbor through slander or gossip, emphasizing the importance of protecting others’ reputations and well-being.
7. Getting Tattoos
Leviticus 19:28 prohibits marking the body with tattoos, a practice common today but considered sinful according to this scripture.
