9 Household Items That Are Not As Necessary As We Are Made To Believe

The moment you step into a supermarket, every product displayed on the shelves seems like something you absolutely need in your life. Besides the basic necessities, even three-in-one mixer grinders and six-in-one tool openers appeal to you like never before. Unfortunately, once you pay and bring them home, you start thinking if you actually needed those items. To be honest, advertisements do a wonderful job convincing us that we need every product they sell, but we need to think if we really need the product before swiping our cards. Here in this article are a few things that are stocked in almost every household but are not as necessary as we think. Read on!….CONTINUE READING…CONTINUE READING
1. Paper Towels
Most of us place paper towels in our shopping cart the moment we pass by them, without thinking twice. The common thought is that they always come in use. This results in towers of paper towels stacked in every corner of our house. While they are convenient for cleaning spillage and wiping, you can replace them with clothes towels that are washable and environmentally friendly.
2. Feather Dusters
Most of us have feather dusters in our homes for removing visible dust particles from items that collect dust regularly. While it looks convenient, it is not very good at holding dust. It merely pushes the dust from one surface to another. It is advisable to invest in microfibre cloths to get dust off open surfaces.
3. Vacuum Keyboard Cleaners
The nooks on your keywords are infamous for collecting dust, and knowing that there is a specific vacuum cleaner for your keyboard can make you want to hit the ‘buy now’ button too eagerly. However, the same work can be done using a thick bristle paint brush as well. Simply run the brush in between your keys and push the dust out every day before you start to work on your computer. This will keep dust away from your device without having to make this rather unnecessary investment.
4. Air Freshener
A fresh-smelling room can make you feel better in no time, so, many of us invest in expensive room fresheners for our homes. But did you know, we can have the same effect by using natural homemade room fresheners? Ingredients like coffee, citrus fruits, and flowers are perfect replacements for chemical air fresheners and they are not harmful to our health in any way.
5. Antibacterial Wipes
Antibacterial wipes seem like the wonder product we have all been waiting for. Who wouldn’t want to sanitize all surfaces and make them germ-free with a single swipe of an antibacterial wipe! But the truth is, the slimy residue can make the surface attract more dust and dirt and make it more difficult for you to clean it later. Also, not all surfaces are meant to be wiped with antibacterial wipes, so it’s better to use dry wipes instead.
6. USB Fans
You must have seen videos and reels showcasing USB fans that help keep you stay cool and are easy to set up. While they seem like a wonderful idea, they are not very efficient. Also, they are not durable enough to last you for years. So it’s better to invest in a table fan or ceiling fan if you live in tropical areas.
7. Oven Cleaners
Cleaning your oven regularly is something you must do to keep your meals hygienic. However, using oven cleaners can release gasses that may irritate your skin and eyes. So, instead of using harsh products, you can use homemade products like citric acid and vinegar to keep your oven clean.
8. Laundry Balls
Laundry balls are believed to keep your winter clothing soft and fluffy even after multiple washes. As wonderful as they sound, they may not be as efficient as we would want them to be. Some even get tangled in the clothes and destroy the delicate knitting of the clothes.
9. Lint Rollers
If you have pets at home, you probably have a lint roller at your disposal. But those who own one can say, they are not as efficient as advertisements claim it to be. Lint rollers are not able to remove all fur from your furniture and clothes and eventually you will need the help of a brush or vacuum cleaner to get the fur out of your clothes.
We all want to buy smart, and knowing what we actually need can help us make good savings. Instead of making ourselves believe that we need every well-advertised product, it is important to evaluate where and when that product will come into use. Also, if there is an effective and eco-friendly alternative to the product, it’s better to try that before making a purchase. Hope this article helps you make smart purchases. Happy shopping!….CONTINUE READING
