Surprising Body Parts That Hurt When Blood Sugar Is Too High

When blood sugar levels become too high, the body begins to show warning signs. One of the most common signals is pain in different parts of the body. These discomforts happen because excess sugar damages nerves, affects circulation, and weakens vital organs.

One of the first areas affected is the feet. High blood sugar damages the nerves in the legs and feet, causing burning, tingling, numbness, or sharp pain.

Many people with uncontrolled blood sugar also experience swollen or cold feet because blood circulation becomes poor.

The hands can also develop similar symptoms. Nerve damage in the fingers and palms may cause weakness, numbness, or painful sensations. In severe cases, people may struggle to hold objects firmly.

Another part affected is the eyes. When sugar levels rise, the small blood vessels in the eyes become strained. This causes eye pain, blurry vision, headaches, or pressure around the eyes. If untreated, it may lead to serious vision problems.

The kidneys may also cause pain when blood sugar is consistently high. Although kidney pain is not always obvious, some people feel discomfort in the lower back on either side. This is a sign that the kidneys are working too hard to filter excess sugar.

Pain can also appear in the joints, especially the knees and shoulders. High sugar levels trigger inflammation, which leads to stiffness and persistent aches.

Finally, the stomach area can hurt due to slow digestion. High blood sugar affects the nerves that control the digestive system, causing cramps, bloating, or discomfort after eating.

Paying attention to these signs is important. Early detection and proper management of blood sugar can protect the body and prevent long-term complications.
