ATM Didn’t Dispense Your Cash? Here’s What To Do Right Away

It can be frustrating when you try to withdraw money from an ATM, and your account gets debited without dispensing cash. If this ever happens to you, here are the immediate steps you should take:

1. Do Not Leave the ATM Immediately

Stay calm and remain at the machine for a few minutes. Sometimes, the ATM may reverse itself and dispense the cash after a short delay. Walking away too quickly may cause you to miss this chance.

2. Note Down the Transaction Details

Record important information such as the date, time, location of the ATM, and the exact amount withdrawn. Also, keep the transaction slip if the ATM issues one. These details will help your bank trace the failed transaction quickly.

3. Contact Your Bank Immediately

Call your bank’s customer care line or visit the nearest branch to lodge a complaint. Provide them with the transaction details. Most banks usually reverse the deducted amount within 24–72 hours after proper verification.

4. Notify the Bank that Owns the ATM (if different)

If you used an ATM that doesn’t belong to your bank, also report the issue to the ATM’s host bank. They may speed up the reconciliation process in collaboration with your bank.

5. Monitor Your Account Balance
Regularly check your account to confirm when the money has been reversed. If the refund delays beyond the stated period, follow up with your bank until it is resolved.
