The Buccaneers Confraternity has distanced itself from the activities of a group identified as Brothers Across Nigeria International. It urged the public, corporate organisations and financial institutions to be wary of the schemes of the group.

The president, Olushola Oyeyemi, who made this known, yesterday, said Brothers Across Nigeria (defunct) and Brothers Across Nigeria (BAN) International are distinctly different organisations.

The Buccaneers Confraternity debunked reports of claims by a certain Azubuike Onowu that he is the Global President of BAN and the Grand Eye of the confraternity.

It advised Onowu to cease and desist from further parading himself as the Grand Eye of the Buccaneers Confraternity. He said: “We, the registered trustees of the Buccaneers Confraternity, an association registered in the UK, wish to draw the attention of the public, corporate organisations and financial institutions to a mischievous and erroneous publication on January 19, 2024.

“In the said publication, widely circulated in print and electronic forms online as well as on social media, a certain Azubuike Onowu was reported to have claimed to be the Global President of BAN and the Grand Eye of the Buccaneers Confraternity.

“Due to certain duplicitous events and the aforementioned misleading media publication, we are compelled to issue the following statement of facts to the general public and to those who may be herein addressed, in particular, Onowu and his band of usurpers.

“Buccaneers’ Confraternity (Company number 08293251) is registered to operate in England. The Buccaneers Confraternity has not yet been incorporated in Nigeria. The confraternity was registered as a student’s organisation in 1972 at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria.

“Chapters of the organisation that followed in other tertiary institutions operated under this model until the confraternity ceased operating in tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

“The Buccaneers Confraternity has grown from a campus organisation to an international friendship organisation in several countries. The confraternity continues to promote its goals of charity, camaraderie and conviviality among all citizens of the world.”

“In order to achieve its stated goals, the name, Buccaneers Confraternity was incorporated in the United Kingdom on November 14, 2012 (registration number 08293251). Other chapters of the confraternity have been duly incorporated as Buccaneers Confraternity in other countries, except in Nigeria.

“We urge the general public, corporate organisations and financial institutions to be aware of the schemes of Brothers Across Nigeria International (registration number 138723, registered on November 8, 2019). Brothers Across Nigeria (defunct) and Brothers Across Nigeria International are distinctly different organisations

“We warn Onowu to cease and desist from further parading himself as the Grand Eye of the Buccaneers Confraternity. As registered trustees of the Buccaneers Confraternity, we cannot allow the hard-earned reputation and image of our confraternity to be sullied by the actions of a nefarious gang, intent on misleading the members of the public.”
