BREAKING: Desmond Elliot Reveals Why He Switched To Politics

Desmond Elliot, a Nollywood star-turned-politician has opened up about the motive which led to his venturing into politics in 2015.

The 51-year-old actor in a recent interview with Media personality, Chude recounted how a chance introduction to the then former Lagos governor, and currently President, Bola Asiwaju Tinubu by Adams Oshiomhole completely changed the course of his life.

“Asiwaju saw me, says he knows me, and i was like a son and just liked me,” he says, still surprised.

The actor also speaks with clarity about being contested against by Olumide Oworu during the 2023 elections. He noted that he was not hurt a fellow actor was running against him, but rather hurt by his veteran colleagues who endorsed him.

“I wasn’t angry with him,” he says. “I was hurt by the veterans who endorsed him.”

Desmond Elliot who studied Economics at the Lagos State University gained prominence in Nollywood in the early 2000s, starring in numerous romance and drama films before transitioning into directing and producing.

He declared his intention to venture into politics in 2014 and was elected to the Lagos State House of Assembly, representing Surulere Constituency in 2015.

He secured re-election in 2019 and 2023, with his political career receiving both support and criticism.
