BREAKING: Osun Amotekun Operatives Savagely Attacked By Armed Hoodlums, 4 Injured

A group of armed assailants launched a violent assault on personnel of the Osun State Amotekun Corps in Awo, the administrative centre of Egbedore Local Government Area, leaving four operatives seriously injured.
Confirming the incident in a statement released on Monday, the Corps Commander, Isaac Omoyele, through the spokesperson Yusuf Idowu Abass, explained that the unprovoked attack occurred on Friday and involved a deliberate attempt by the attackers to seize the operatives’ weapons.
Commander Omoyele said the chain of events began when the Oniwoye of Iwoye, Oba Adebusoye Oyebamiji, lodged a formal complaint regarding the unauthorised burial of a corpse on sacred ancestral land in the community.
“In response to the monarch’s report, four Amotekun officers were promptly dispatched to investigate. Upon arrival, they discovered that the burial had already been conducted.
“While they were assessing the situation, a notorious and long-sought thug, Ismaila Aluko, emerged from hiding along with a group of armed accomplices and launched a vicious attack on the operatives,” Omoyele said.
He noted that the officers, facing heavy aggression, withdrew tactically to the Awo Command to call for reinforcements. However, the gang escalated the situation by regrouping and launching a second assault—this time targeting the Amotekun office in Awo.
“During this second wave of violence, the assailants made attempts to forcibly disarm the officers and inflicted grievous injuries on them. The wounded operatives were quickly moved to a medical facility for urgent treatment,” the statement read.
Condemning the attack in strong terms, Omoyele said the act was not only barbaric but also constituted a serious threat to the safety and security of communities in the state. He vowed that such conduct would no longer be tolerated.
He assured the public that the Amotekun Corps was collaborating closely with other security agencies to ensure the immediate apprehension and prosecution of all those connected to the assault.
“Our resolve to protect lives, property, and maintain peace within Osun communities remains unshaken. The Amotekun Corps is fully committed to its responsibility of enforcing law and order, and we will not be deterred by acts of lawlessness,” Omoyele affirmed.
