BREAKING: Savannah State baseball “reload” not rebuild despite the departure of 3 key players

SAVANNAH, Ga. () The Savannah State baseball team opens its 2024 campaign at home this Saturday. For Tigers fans, the hope is that the team can maintain the high level of success they have witnessed over recent years.

Over the past two seasons, Savannah State has posted 30-plus win seasons and saw them advance to the conference championship last year. In 2024 the Tigers lose two first-team all-conference players in outfielder Joe Smith and pitcher Enrico Peele, as well as second-team all-conference performer Jared Showalter. On the plus side, Savannah State does return second-team all-conference pitcher Jose Santiago.

The Tigers say they are ready for whatever 2024 has to offer:

“I would say that we grew the most coming together,” Mann said. “In the fall, it’s everybody out competing for a spot and now that we are filling in our role and getting ready for the season, I think we have come together a lot as a group. It feels like everyone is just ready to play. We’re all just antsy ready to get the season going.”

“This year we have a lot of young guys,” junior second baseman Desmore Joseph said. “I feel like they bring a lot of energy. We’re trying to learn from them as much as they learn from us. I think that helps we bring the energy that we had last year and the year before because that’s always helped us, especially later in the season. That’s how we were successful for the most part.”

Savannah State opens the season this Saturday at 10 A.M. as they host Bluefield State.
