The Yobe State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is facing a crisis following allegations of irregularities in the recent party congresses held across the state. The party’s Legal Advisor in Yobe State, Barrister Ahmed Warizi, alongside local government chairmen and members of the State Working Committee, expressed dismay over the conduct of the congresses, describing them as “unfortunate” and in violation of the party’s constitution.
The congresses, held on May 8 and 13, 2025, were allegedly carried out without proper consultation with key stakeholders. Barrister Warizi noted that as the home state of the acting National Chairman of the PDP, Yobe should have been a model for due process. The development has sparked concerns about the party’s internal democracy and its ability to project a united front.
The aggrieved party members are calling for a review of the congresses and a return to the party’s constitutional processes. The crisis in the Yobe PDP chapter has raised questions about the party’s leadership and its commitment to transparency and accountability.
