Election Tribunal: “We Will not Tolerate Any Forms Of Technicalities,” Court Warns

According to VanguardNews, the presidential election petitions court, PEPC, held its inaugural session Monday, a legal ritual that precedes the actual hearing of petitions aimed at overturning the outcome of the 2023 presidential election.

A five-member panel of judges from the Court of Appeal was unveiled at the session, who will hear and rule on all five petitions challenging Bola Tinubu’s declaration by the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, as the winner of the presidential election….CONTINUE READING

While the panel is chaired by the Chief Justice (PJ) of the Abuja Branch of the Court of Appeal, Judge Haruna Tsammani, other members of the panel are; Judge Stephen Adah (PJ Asaba Division), Judge Monsurat Bolaji-Yusuf (Asaba Division), Judge Boluokuromo Ugo (Kano Division) and Judge Abba Mohammed (Ibadan Division).

In his opening remarks, Presiding Judge Tsammani urged all petitioners’ attorneys to avoid sensationalist comments and stressed that the court would not tolerate time-consuming tactics and formalities.

He said: As we begin hearing the petitions, we should avoid making sensational comments.

Let’s look at the country’s security and interests, which are of paramount importance.

We should avoid unnecessary time-consuming applications and objections so that we can deal with the substance of the case and not with unnecessary formalities.

In response, the president-elect’s senior counsel, Chief Wole Olanipekun, SAN, assured the court of his team’s utmost cooperation and said it was necessary to resolve the matter without resorting to unnecessary formalities to decide.

Likewise, the head of the legal team representing People’s Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar and SAN Chief Chris Uche said they would do everything they could to help the court deliver justice….CONTINUE READING
