The suspect, Victor Ochonogor Ifakachukwu, 25, also said aside the chat messages, he recovered a Kayamata from his girlfriend which he believes she was using to manipulate his state of mind.

He explained that as he probed his findings an argument erupted leading to a knife fight.

The suspect vehemently declined to disclose the content of the chat messages but he said was between his girlfriend and her brother.

The suspect sustained knife injuries while his girlfriend later identified as Success Fejiro Regha,19, a final year student of accounting, Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo State, died inside the apartment.

Security operatives reportedly rushed him to hospital where he was placed under police watch ahead of his recovery to answer to his crime while his lover was evacuated to a mortuary. The sad incident occurred at 10, Osahon Street, Ogheghe, Off Sapele Road, Benin City, about 11 a.m on August 21, 2023.

His landlord one Mr. Emmanuel Momoh reported the bloodbath to the police about 4p.m that fateful day.

Speaking with our correspondent, the suspect said he is a 300-level student of Applied Industrial Chemistry, University of Port Harcourt, UNIPORT, and not internet fraudster otherwise known as ***.

“She came from Asaba to visit me, a day to that day when the incident happened, we had argument about this cinnamon stick and Kayamata stuff that looks diabolical and ever since I know I have not been in my state of mind.

“When she was about to leave, that morning, before then I saw a chat between she and her brother and I was trying to know what they discussed in her phone, she said I should leave her alone, I wanted to collect her phone we started dragging, she went to the kitchen and picked a knife and said she would stab herself. When I went close to her she stabbed me and I rushed to the kitchen to take a knife, as she was shouting neighbour, neighbour and running towards the door I stabbed her in the neck and chest.

“I don’t know if it is that Kayamata stuff that came over me, I know if I was in my right state of mind I will not stab her”, the suspect stated.

The Commissioner of police, Edo State Mohammed Dankwara said the Victor Ochonogor locked his girlfriend, Success Regha in one-bedroom apartment and stabbed her on the neck and she died instantly. He added that investigations had commenced to reveal his motive as he would be charged for murder.

CP Dankwara said two blood-stained knives, two iPhones, one Nokia phone, one laptop and two ATM cards were recovered as exhibits from the apartment.

“If you have been following the trend whereby people of the underworld have been killing their girlfriends for money ritual purposes. I don’t see what will warrant a man to be beating a woman let alone carrying a knife. Any man who beats a woman is an animal.

“We have obtained his confessional statement, recovered exhibits and gathered all the necessary ingredients from the spot needed to buttress the crime he has committed, that is murder. These are the type of people that when you leave them nobody knows what will happen next. Tomorrow it will be a turn of another person’s daughter”, CP Mohammed Dankwara said.

Item showed to our correspondent by police which the suspect identified was cinnamon stick.

Investigation by our correspondent revealed that Kayamata is a herb meant for enhancing the responsiveness of women to their men, to make them more pliable for sexual activities.

Findings also showed that Kayamata comes in various forms, such as perfumes, make-up, lubricants, insertions, powers and spices. Some are even consumed as whole meals or taken in oral forms like medicinal drinks, as the objective is to enhance sexual experience of the partners.

Cinnamon stick on the other hand is used to flavour dishes, drinks or sauces and are then thrown away, ground cinnamon can be mixed into meals or sprinkled on top of baking, desserts, savoury dishes, as well as drinks too…..CONTINUE READING
