JUST IN: Amidst Security Concern, Anti-Fubara Rivers Assembly Faction Convenes

A group of the Rivers State House of Assembly, comprising about twenty members, occupied the Assembly premises on Tuesday morning and convened a plenary meeting. It was learned that the legislators, who supported Speaker Martin Amaewhule despite his difficulties, wanted a police probe into the October 29 fire that occurred in the chamber. The lamakers also talked on the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) suspending their strike. It is still uncertain as of the time of publication if the MPs had resumed the impeachment process against Governor Siminalayi Fubara. Remember how the impeachment procedures against Fubara on October 30 shook the political atmosphere in the state? Nyesom Wike, the former governor of the state and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), was allegedly supported by the lawmakers who spearheaded the initiative. Moscow Road traffic, which was blocked throughout the sitting, is now open to cars and pedestrians. Police patrol vans are positioned at the entrance to the Assembly building.
