LP States That Defecting To APC Equates To Pursuing A Dishonorable Path For Financial Gain

Ongoing defections by politicians in the country to the National ruling party, All Progressives Congress, APC, amount to taking the dishonorable path because of monetary inducements.

This assertion was made by the publicity Secretary of the Labour Party in Cross River State, Dr Ofem Lekam Ujong when the party refuted a social media post by one Chief Paul Ifere who said the entire structures of the LP in the state defected to the APC alongside former senatorial aspirant in the party, Daniel Asuquo over the weekend.

Yesterday, the ruling party celebrated some dignitaries from PDP, PRP and LP who left their parties for APC during the month. Amongst them was three-term member of the House of Representatives, Daniel Asuquo who contested senatorial election on the platform of the Labour Party in 2023.

“To set the record straight, on 7 April 2025, Rt Hon Daniel Asuquo, a.k.a Dansuki, tendered his resignation letter to our state chairman, Patriarch Ogar Osim, citing the state publicity Secretary for the records. These were duly acknowledged.

“We want to enlighten that none of the 18 chapter chairman and state executive of our party defected with Asuquo or any other decamped in the state.

“We challenge Ifere Paul to provide any name of LP officials that defected yesterday or before now. We’re very committed to a better Nigeria. ”

In a statement, Ujong affirmed that both chapter and state officials of the party are very committed to the LP, and cannot be induced by “monetary form of politics, which is almost becoming a tradition for opposition members in Nigeria. ”

Ujong went on to assert that the ruling party has destroyed the national economy and inflicted pains and poverty on Nigerians.

“Such an inducement is not an option for LP chapter or state executive committee members.
