Just as Igbo concept of the universe recognises three distinct but related worlds so as Amalla Egazi people too, these are: ‘’the world of the unborn, the world of the living, and the ancestral world”. Every member of Amalla community believes that life must pass through these three phases or worlds. During conception, the unborn is said to leave his abode of the ancestral to be conceived by a woman (living), and is then born into the world of the living where he/she lives until death beckons.
According to Eze Emmanuel, who is an elder in the community, the spirit of the deceased proceeds and returns to the ancestral world where it originally came from.
Out of the three worlds, the world of the living is the only phase that is tangibly concrete (physical) but has its fate being determined by the spirit world. Our peoples strongly believe that this earth is not a permanent abode for man and that everyone must die when their time reaches to leave this world.
From the testimonies of people who have been there, we were able to gather that Amalla is divided into 2 parts; Amalla Nma (Amalla of the dead) and the normal Amalla. It is believed that loved ones who are from the town and surroundings live freely here, that if you want to see them, Amalla is the place to be. Some even testified to seeing and interacting with their dead relatives and loved in this place. Some even go as far as interacting with their loved ones to investigate their deaths if it was natural or not and even settling lands/wills disputes with the inputs of the dead……CONTINUE READING
