The primary reason for this is the natural process of combustion inside the engine. When the engine burns fuel (typically gasoline or diesel), the combustion process creates several byproducts, including carbon dioxide (CO2) and water vapor (H2O).

This water vapor can condense as it cools down in the exhaust system, especially when the engine is started after being cold or during short trips. As the exhaust system heats up, this water vapor can turn into liquid water and drip out of the tailpipe.

In colder weather, this phenomenon is more noticeable because the exhaust gases cool down quickly, causing more condensation. The water is usually harmless and evaporates once the car’s exhaust system heats up fully.

However, if there’s an excessive amount of water or a noticeable puddle under the car even when the engine is warm, it could indicate a problem, such as a coolant leak into the exhaust system.

This might be a sign of a blown head gasket or other engine issues that require attention. It’s important to monitor your car’s performance and, if necessary, have it checked by a mechanic to avoid further damage.
