Education Needs a Makeover — Enioluwa

Following the admission by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) that a technical error compromised the integrity of the results from the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) in 157 centres nationwide, actor and content creator, Enioluwa Adeoluwa has said that the country’s education sector needs a total overhaul.
On Wednesday, JAMB registrar, Ishaq Oloyede, during a press conference in Abuja said the results of 379,997 candidates were affected. He said the board discovered discrepancies linked to faulty server updates in its Lagos and south-east zones, which led to the failure to upload candidates’ responses during the first three days of the examination.
The problem which Oloyede said was caused by one of the two technical service providers for the exercise, went undetected before the results were released.
He further noted that 65 centres in Lagos (206,610 candidates) and 92 centres in the south-east zone (173,387 candidates) were affected, bringing the total number of impacted candidates to 379,997.
Reacting to the issue, Enioluwa said that Nigeria’s education sector needs a revamp. According to him, in this age, students should be able to take a Computer-Based Test and get their results in real time.
He wrote; “This is exactly what I mean when I talk about the ‘Anyhowness’ in this country. Our educational sector desperately needs a revamp. In a properly functioning system, students should be able to take a Computer-Based Test (CBT) and get their results immediately after clicking ‘submit.’ It’s an objective exam.”
To address the issue, Oloyede said that JAMB it will conduct a rescheduled UTME for all affected candidates. He also said that affected candidates will be notified via SMS, email, and phone calls, and are advised to reprint their examination slips for details on the rescheduled tests adding that there are moves to ensure that the rescheduled UTME does not clash with ongoing WASSCE organised by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
