Smelly shoes are common, especially when sweat, bacteria, and poor airflow build up inside footwear. Luckily, you can eliminate the odor using simple home-friendly methods.
1. Air Them Out
After wearing your shoes, leave them in a cool, dry, ventilated place. This helps moisture evaporate, which prevents odor-causing bacteria from growing.
2. Use Baking Soda
Sprinkle a little baking soda inside the shoes and leave it overnight. It absorbs moisture and neutralizes odors. Shake it out the next morning.
3. Wash Removable Insoles
If your shoes have removable insoles, wash and dry them. Or replace them if the smell is too strong.
4. Use Drying Packs (Silica Gel)
Place silica gel packets or moisture-absorbing pouches inside the shoes.
5. Freeze the Shoes
Putting shoes in a sealed plastic bag and freezing them overnight may help reduce odor-causing bacteria.
6. Wear Clean, Breathable Socks
Cotton or moisture-wicking socks reduce sweating and help prevent odor buildup. Change socks daily.
7. Choose Shoes That Allow Airflow
Footwear made with mesh or breathable materials prevents moisture build.
