“I love you” is probably one of the most frequently used phrases in relationships. There is nothing wrong with saying it, but sometimes, those three words can become so common that they lose their meaning.

I once heard a story about an elderly couple who had been together for many years. Someone asked them, “How have you managed to remain together and stay friends for such a long time?”

She said, “We were born in a time when broken things were repaired instead of being thrown away.”
What a powerful statement.
Today, many people have started confusing love with ownership. They believe that loving someone means controlling them, keeping them to themselves, or expecting them to always behave according to their wishes.
But love and possession are not the same thing.

Love says, “We belong together.”
Possession wants control. Love wants freedom.
Possession asks, “What can you do for me?”

If you are struggling to find the right words to express your feelings, don’t simply repeat “I love you.” Show the person what those words truly mean.
Genuine love is not blind. In fact, love allows you to see a person clearly—their strengths, weaknesses, mistakes, fears, and imperfections—and still choose to care for them.

It is easy to love someone when everything is going perfectly. The real test comes when there are disagreements, financial problems, misunderstandings, disappointments, or difficult seasons.
Are you willing to stay and work things out?
Are you willing to apologize when you are wrong?
Are you willing to forgive?
Are you willing to listen and understand instead of trying to win every argument?
Are you willing to fix what can be fixed?
Nobody is perfect, and no relationship is perfect. Even genuine love needs to be nurtured every day.
Sometimes what a relationship needs is not another “I love you,” but a little more patience, forgiveness, understanding, kindness, and effort.
So, the next time you want to tell someone you love them, don’t just say the words.
Show them.
Show them through your patience.
Show them through your respect.
Show them by being there when life becomes difficult.
Show them by forgiving.
Show them by listening.
Show them by choosing the relationship even when it requires effort.
Because things come and go, but genuine love is something worth protecting.

Are you willing to keep choosing love when things become difficult?
Are you willing to repair what can be repaired instead of throwing everything away?
And are you ready to show your love through your actions, not just your words?
