I’m sure most of us have attended funerals and witnessed the process of digging graves. Some individuals also argue that it is a cultural practice because it is practiced practically everywhere in the world.

Have you ever stopped to consider why people are usually buried six feet beneath the surface of the earth?

If you haven’t already, I’m going to discuss with you some of the reasons why individuals are buried six feet beneath the ground today.

1. It prevents the casket from being washed away by water.

This is one of the reasons why humans are buried six feet beneath the surface of the earth. There are times when we have constant heavy rains, and soil erosion happens as a result. If someone is buried more than three feet beneath the surface, there is a chance that the casket will be washed away by the current of water. A deeper burial also means that there will be less chance of the casket being washed away by floodwaters.

2. It prevents the spread of contagious diseases.

There are some diseases that are extremely hazardous and can be passed from one person to another by contact with them. For example, coronaviruses and pneumonic plaques are both viruses. By burying the sick carcass six feet beneath the surface of the ground, other animals will be unable to dig the body out of the ground, so preventing the spread of the disease.

3. It prevents stealing of the casket.

This is also another key reason why dead remains are buried six feet beneath the surface of the ground. Someone always steals the casket from the tomb and uses it for their bad actions, and this is one of those persons. Putting the bodies deeper in the ground makes it more difficult for them to get to them, which helps to reduce the number of thefts.
