Accidents happen one moment you’re texting, the next your phone is swimming in water. Whether it falls in a sink, toilet, or pool, water damage can destroy your device within minutes. 1. Take It Out of the Water Immediately
Every second counts. Quickly remove your phone from the water to prevent more moisture from seeping into the internal components. Don’t try to test if it still works that can cause a short circuit.

2. Switch It Off Right Away
If your phone is still on, turn it off immediately. Power and water don’t mix — leaving it on can fry the circuits. If it’s off already, don’t try turning it on to “check if it’s okay.”
3. Remove the SIM, Memory Card, and Battery (If Possible)
Gently remove the SIM card, memory card, and back cover. This allows air to circulate and helps moisture escape faster. For phones with sealed batteries, skip this step and move to drying.
4. Use a Dry Cloth or Paper Towel
Pat the phone dry carefully don’t shake or blow air into it, as that can push water deeper.
5. Skip the Hair Dryer
Many people use a hair dryer, but hot air can melt delicate circuits. Instead, place your phone in front of a fan or under indirect sunlight for a few hours.
6. Try the Rice or Silica Gel Method
Put your phone in a sealed container filled with uncooked rice or silica gel packets for 24–48 hours. These absorb moisture effectively.
7. Power It On and Test
After at least 24 hours of drying, reinsert the SIM card and battery (if removable). Turn it on if it powers up normally, you might have saved it! If not, take it to a professional technician immediately.
To prevent future damage, consider buying a waterproof phone case or a dry bag for outdoor or rainy-day use.
