Community health workers are an integral part of interdisciplinary teams that offer a wide range of services to people in need, including helping with ADLs and other assigned tasks, as well as emotional and practical support to clients and their families so that they can live as independently as possible in their own homes.

This employment may necessitate occasional travel. Possession of a valid British Columbia driver’s license; the ability to transport oneself in a manner consistent with the service assignment and the operational needs of the Vancouver Island Health Authority; and, if necessary, a personal car.

BEARS WHAT IT TAKES:

Knowledge, Skills, and Work History
Certificate in Home Support, Resident Care Attendant, or Health Care Assistant from an accredited postsecondary institution; or an equal mix of classroom instruction, practical experience, and work history.

A valid driver’s license from British Columbia; and a certificate certifying that food is safe to eat.

Always up-to-date on all necessary registrations with the British Columbia Care Aide and Community Health Worker Registry.

Abilities and Skills

Able to complete tasks with little to no oversight.
Possessing strong verbal and written communication skills.
Showed proficiency in interacting with others.
Physically able to fulfill the duties of the job.
Work has been well-organized.
Proficiency in operating corresponding machinery.
