In Niagara, which is bordered by Lakes Ontario and Erie to the north and south, we are honored to educate more than 40,000 students in nearly 100 elementary and secondary schools.

All that we do revolves around the students of DSBN.The Board is on the lookout for a dynamic, caring, and student-centered Outdoor Guide to supplement our committed and inspired staff.

This role is responsible for assisting students in our welcoming and supportive outdoor classroom.

For this temporary post, which reports to the Outdoor Education Supervisor, the ideal candidate will: collaborate with other members of the Outdoor Experiential Education team to provide educational programs at various locations;

work together with other members of the Outdoor Experiential Education team to design fresh and exciting outdoor education programs;

Help with school planning, invoicing, and bus scheduling, among other duties as required. possess and disseminate environmental literacy and an enthusiasm for outdoor education programs (e.g., the ability to recognize and identify local plants and animals, an understanding of forest management and the Niagara escarpment, orienteering, low ropes, GPS, etc.).

engage in ongoing professional development in outdoor and environmental education by earning relevant certifications and continuing to update one’s skillset;

interact productively with adults, students, and instructors; keep Outdoor Education equipment and facilities in good working order (including doing minor repairs and upkeep).

Educational Needs, Proficiency, and Required Skills A CAAT certificate or diploma in environmental education, outdoor education, or a related field is required of all applicants. Applicants holding a Bachelor of Science degree with a major or concentration in Outdoor Education will be given first consideration.

Experience working with students in a similar capacity is an asset. As a prerequisite for employment, you must provide a current, satisfactory Police Clearance that includes a Vulnerable Sector Police Check, or demonstrate your ability to obtain one.
